Hotgoblin Season 3, Round 9
I was quietly confident against Mark’s and his Halflings of the “Barefoot Bullroarers”. I was hoping to farm some SPP’s this round as I had quite a few players on the cusp of a skill up. The league is really getting into the spirit of their teams so I sent the pic below around as the Chuck Norse’s new sponsorship deal. “Jawceps”, ”Chindominals” and ‘Jawsome” were key words for a few days there.
Match day dawns and the Chuck Norse’s are feeling good! This round is Squig Ball and I was hoping that the funky Squig Ball rules wouldn’t hurt my chances of getting a win and a bucket load of SPP’s. The pounding I received at the hands of the “Fifth Gen Rebels” actually helped me this game. It had lowered my team value so much that Mark could only afford to take the Halfling Chef and a babe against me, but, it meant I only had 11 players.
I kicked off and pushed a few Halflings around. A treeman pounded the unfortunate lineman I had to stick in front of him but only knocked him out. Mark threw a Halfling and scored in his Turn Two. Not the best of starts for the Chuck Norse’s…no Halflings off the pitch and I’m a player down. Even with all the Mighty Blow on my team I could break the little buggers armour! I’m supposed to be a bash team! Mr.T decides to wake up a start playing and rips into a Halfling, causing a cas (Skill up!!!). This inspires the rest of the team who then start to lay into the Halflings. I don’t enjoy killing other peoples players, but, I have no qualms about Badly Hurting them! I scored, evening the score at 1-1. Mark tries another Halfling throw makes the throw but the Halfling with the ball fails to land. I pick the ball up and have to do a semi-risky play to attempt to score. I have to use my re-roll to hand the ball off, but the rest of the play goes to plan and I score again in my Turn 8.
My knocked out play decides to come back and play, so I stick him in front of a Treeman again. I take two turns to collect the stupid squig (I really should have given my thrower Sure Hands before Accurate). I pound some more Halflings and basically hold out for the whole turn before scoring. I run the ball in and take a 3-1 lead. Mark elects to throw the Halfling for a one turn touch down, collects the squig, makes his hand off, makes his throw but fails to land the Halfling. I break his armour and kill the little guy. Unfortunately, Mark had already used his apoth…so the little guy went to the great bistro in the sky.
A good win for the Chuck Norse’s with three skill ups out of the game. Most importantly Mr. T skills up and rolls double 6! The dilemma…do I take block or make him S6? In the end I took the strength upgrade, who knows I might roll another double. This win puts the Chuck Norse’s in 5th place on the league ladder, with only 6 games of the season to go.
